Message from President

Fumi Horiguchi Institute for Research and Education in Women's health was established by the graduates of Melbourne University, with an advice from Professor Jane Fisher at Monash University (former Associate Professor at Melbourne University), in order to train professionals engaged in women's health and evaluate the performances of women's health.

When looking at the education of women's health for professionals overseas, some faculties of medical colleges in the United States and Australia established the classes, and it was gradually integrated into the medical education.  Likewise, the schools and colleges of nursing and midwifery in the US and Europe initiated to undertake the education of women's health.

In contrast, unfortunately, the education of women's health in Japan has not yet advannced as much as the one in those countries.

Against this background, there is a significance that the Fumi Horiguchi Institute can contribute and promote. The University of Melbourne provided education of women's health to the Japanese professionals more than ten years, and the Institute will share and disseminate this expertise in Japan as well as Asian and other world that have many women who are asking for help and support.

Specifically, nurses that holds a majority of women show a great deal of interest in this area, and therefore they are highly expected to perform actively, but we will also expect the wider collaborations with clinicians,  pharmacists, public health nurses, and clinical psychologists to respond to the issues of women's health. As such, this Institute was founded to support the awareness raising of society and professionals who promote the activities of women's health.
